coral detectives - video coming soon
Mariani returned in October from 3 weeks filming underwater with Australian Southern Cross University marine scientists in Thailand. Lots of footage to be edited. Have a look at the blog Coral Detectives.
Marine scientists Dr. Sander Scheffers, Lea Taylor and Paul Kelly, and filmmaker Mariani Vermeend of Rapture Productions prepared for a specialist mission: the delicate task of getting a very 4 meter coral core (an 'Asia Pacific first') from this reef in order to read apprimately 500 years of tsunami and cyclone history, the reef's conditions and other past environmental parameters, with extremely high resolution.
Sophisticated technical equipment was sent to Koh Raya Yai island to enable the scientific pioneering work.
