french polynesia - marquesas islands
I sailed the oceans and fell in love with a Polynesian local man who lives with the rich nature on the Marquesas islands. The place is wild and energetically extremely powerful. No white beaches, rather big black pebbles, volcanic ridges, that like dragon backs dissappear into a dark blue ocean. The waters are clear and cold, teeming with life. The soil is fertile; you can plant a fruit tree and in 3 years it will give you the most delicious fruits you ever tasted.
The people are proud giants who, after colonial suppression are now expressing their natural knowledge and practice tattoo art, make wood carvings, produce monoi perfumed with sweet dried flowers. The Festival des Marquises every 4 years is cultural family gathering sharing a wealth of local arts and dance. Their Haka strong and impressive with the delicate women's 'dance de l'oiseau'. Vie la Belle Vie. Read here one of my stories about Hiva Oa
Te Mana no Tehutu
In the image above you see my little studio on Hiva Oa, one of the Marquesas Islands. It is built by Sylvain, the father of my beautiful daughter Vea. He waits till the windy season and collects the dry leaves that fall freshly from the coconut palmtrees.
In one of the images in the portfolio you can see him weaving a leaf for the roof. It is a large job that needs to be done every 5 years, with hundreds of leafs for the roofs of both studio and main house.
Living under a palmleaf roof is a blessing of comfort and connecting with nature.
